Why I think Kant Never Had to Deal with Neighbors Upstairs

I am seriously considering purchasing a CD for the resident above me. Apparently, they need music to wake them up, and seem to only have one album in their entire collection. If I have to listen to a piano reduction of Carmen's "El Toredor" one more morning, I shall go mad! Insane! Hair-pulling dotty!

Is it ethical to give gifts out of purely self-preservational motives?

Never! Those are the best kind of gifts to give, because (ideally) the recipient is happy to get the gift and you're happy to give. And if they're not thrilled with the gift, they'll chalk it up to you being a weird American.
