The advent of Lawnmower Diaries (see sidebar for link) to Covblogs has brought much pleasure to my blogger browsing. Why? The reason I enjoy Lowen's writing is that he writes about people. Ordinary people. Plain people. The kind of people that everyone meets. And yet, on the pages of Lawnmower Diaries, they seem interesting. As if their lives really were important.
I guess this ability Lowen has of making the ordinary seem extraordinary gives me a glimmer of hope that, just maybe, my life isn't so boring after all. Maybe my life touches more people than I realize.
Such is the reason I also appreciated 5 Points' hall video at Mac Movie Night 2004 (the barbershop documentary). All these ordinary people. Just like me. And yet they had something to say.
[Note: I could have posted this as a comment on Lawnmower Diaries, but then I would have been preaching to the choir of already enthralled readers. Over here, I might provide some marketing power.]

thanks! It thrills me that you find my writing the least bit appealing. i'm don't think of myself as much of a writer, but i've made the resolute decision to throw myself into writing anyway. my blog is the perfect space, because I'm free to write about the one thing that I feel the least bit qualified to write about--not politics, society, philosophy, theology, or even modern music trends. it's just me and what I see from day to day, moment to moment.
i'm trying desperately to be more in tune to other people and less lazy. i can be frightfully lazy. and our information age and the endless amount of WHATS HAPPENING, only encourages my complaceny. it's really a form of cowardice.
so...most of all I want to be writing for the right reasons, without pretensions and not self-seeking.
So i'm seeking others...and most of all The Other.
