When a good book ends, I am sad, but consolable, for I knew in my heart of hearts that the relationship would never last forever and that we must part ways at the final page. But in blogging, my expectations are different. It never occurs to me that a good blog might end as completely as a good book, as final as the snap of a closing cover.
And so I mourn the passing into the West of some favorite blogs:
The Flying Dutchman. Apparently explaining himself to the masses was too great a burden. Farewell.
Lawnmower Diaries. After nine months of dormancy, one final spark of life shone brilliantly before death throes brought final extinguishment. Nevertheless, I yet cling to the hope that springs eternal that this blog bears phoenix-like attributes.
The Africa Chapter. This blog has passed into retirement merely because it's raison d'etre has come to an end. I can accept that. Thanks to Brae (and the various other Howardian blogs I've discovered floating around), Howardness has not utterly vanished from the cyber cosmos. Nevertheless, I will still miss Sienna's in-depth descriptions of the people and places she grew to love in Africa.
Mount Everest. I'm not sure what's up with this one, mostly because its author is on vacation in the Carribbean. But the address has vanished without a trace. Must be the Bermuda Triangle.
Blogs that are not quite dead but only appear on infrequent occasion now:
Out of Egypt. We really need to start an "Internet for Evan" fund. Maybe we could even do commercials.
Hackenbizzl. Moving on to bigger and better jobs, she left her constant internet access behind.
the back burner. Bob's busy with Belgium preparations. I guess I can cut him some slack. But I miss his posts, anyway.
Redrover. Of course, Redrover never posts when she feels under obligation and since we are currently within 11 minutes of each other, this blogger absence doesn't hurt as much as the others.
This Junk Is Good!. It's been over two months since your last post. Sad, sad, sad.
I guess my one consolation at this time is that Linnea is back blogging about linguistics and that alone can satisfy much of my blogging addictions.
The disappearance of the Mount Everest blog is shrouded in mystery. Just minutes after Jon arrived at Nevis he posted three pictures and one sentence about his flight down and only hours after that his whole website disappeared. I’ve tried desperately to contact him but his phone immediately goes into voicemail and email is not working. As far as I know Jon might just have vanished along with his blog and all other traces of his past.

Come to think of it, Jeremy, are you sure he posted pictures of Nevis?
I thought you mentioned something about...well...top secret stuff that is...secret.
