I told them I was a graduate student trying to write a thesis...currently listening to Blueberry Boat

Went to hear Fiery Furnaces tonight. I am very tired but thanks to the intrepid courage of my friend Abbie, I now have the email address for Matthew Friedberger and a promise for a full interview. I am never going anywhere without her again. More on the concert itself when my heartbeat calms down and I get some sleep.

7:47am
Matthew Friedberger was such a down-to-earth, accomodating, and sincere person to talk to (he made sure he responded to everyone who went up to the stage to say hi.) Completely unaffected. I was impressed. Eleanor was backstage, so I didn't get to meet her, but meeting her brother was refreshing to my jaded concept of the musician world in general.

Abbie dragged me up to the stage ("Hey, Matt! Can we ask you a huge favor?") because I was just ready to walk out the door; even as desperate as I am for an interview, I hate approaching semi-famous people with requests for personal favors. But, thanks to Matthew Friedberger's cordial co-operation, I may have access to some exciting primary source material. Sweet, sweet, sweet.

So from now on we have a concert deal, Abbie and I.
I am charge of booking.
She is in charge of PR.
As my "official" photographer, she took my picture with Friedberger, which I will get from her at the earliest possible moment.

Abbie also got me to give my phone number out to some random guy who purportedly worked for a newspaper and wanted to ask follow-up questions regarding our response to the concert. At first I mistook him for a member of the opening band, and gave him the home phone in hopes that my dad will pick up first, because, while I am sure the fellow was above board and all, I also speculated that it might very possibly just be the newest pick-up line, especially since he seemed rather vague about his creds. I am really not expecting to hear back from him. Sorry if I sound extremely harsh, but I have very little patience with affected people when I don't know them at all.

And today's agenda: writing interview questions.

I've had The Fiery Furnaces on my desktop background for the past six months. Matt has beautiful hands.

Wow. Fiery Furnaces, eh? I'm movin' in with you. Let's be buddies. You're way more interesting than anyone else I know. Your blog says it all. Or maybe you make it all up. Maybe you're just a really elaborate and convincing liar. But even if that's true, you're still fascinating. You can be truthfully or untruthfully interesting but it doesn't matter on a blog.

P.S. I do find you very fun in person as well.

Emily,

Wow. You must be bored. But I am flattered nonetheless. :P

Your statements remind me of Evan Donovan and his summation of my real-life personality as it relates to my internet presence: "Sarah. I thought that you must have turned into some wild extrovert since you graduated from college. But really, you are just the same."

"Ah!" I replied dryly. "So I am more interesting on the internet?"

Major back-peddling. "Um...no...just different."

But in all fairness to Evan, he really was right.

So thank you for salvaging my self-esteem with your postscriptal remarks.

I would recommend moving in with me, but all the artist contacts I have I must attribute solely to the work of my friend Abbie, who honestly has no social fear whatsoever.
