For all you Covenant people who had to read Friedman for Global Trends: you might find this critique of The World Is Flat from the perspective of a math and computer science double major (with interests in politics and economics) to be interesting.
I've always criticized the book from a literary perspective (the writing style relies too heavily on multitudes of metaphors), so I appreciate hearing an assessment of the actual content.

The result was my return to Evelyn Wood's Speed Reading course from 8th grade, where I learned to skip large sections of each sentence, allowing the "gist" to pop out.
My favorite part was reading about Wal-Mart. Very impressive. I'm now going to refer to them as Walter-World. Oh how our insatiable quest for all things material spurs invention and ingenuity. Fulfillment of necessity is the mother of invention (you can quote me on that).
PS: Jonathan... get hacking into your blog engine and make it accept comments!
To Alexander Funke: Hey, FCS has its own website???
So cool.
I don't think Jon reads this blog. But Jeremy does. Maybe Jeremy will pass the info on (hint, hint), and Jon will allow us to comment on his blog. The essence of blogness is interactivity!!! The essence of interactivity is public appeal!!!
PS To Jeremy: whatever happened to your blog on aquariums? I tried to find it the other day and all I got was an advertisement for web hosting. So sad that such a unique interest niche has disappeared from the cyber universe. Perhaps I shall compose a eulogy for it, except I fail to remember the specific model you were endorsing.
