Knowing my interests, my dad was telling me about the new iphone, in particular its rumored associations with the Beatles:
Jobs demonstrated the iPhone's music capabilities by playing "Lovely Rita, Meter Maid," from the Beatles' "Sergeant Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band." The audience cheered, spurred by speculation that an announcement was imminent about a deal to sell Beatles songs on iTunes. But there was no such announcement, and Beatles songs still cannot be legally downloaded.
But think about it. Does Apple Records not sound prophetic to anyone else? It would be a sweet merger. Beatles and Macs, nothing can come between us.
I've heard tell that the Beatles and Radiohead are still the major hold-outs against itunes. Old school traditionalists, I suppose. If musicians really really wanted to prevent copyright infringement, we should all go back to vinyl.
Actually, the primary complaint against iTunes is that the ability to download a single track destroys the coherence artists strive to achieve with an entire album. And since the Beatles pretty much invented the concept album, we really don't want to mess with that...(tongue-in-cheek, friends, tongue-in-cheek).
And. I bought another Radiohead poster today. I am officially obsessed.
It was a hard decision because there was also a nice poster featuring Johnny Depp in a fedora. A FEDORA!!! But I decided I probably didn't need to look at that every day, weak-kneed as it made me feel.
Sigh. Fedora. I am in love with you....
