ghostly passages

After canceling yesterday's night classes at McMaster, the snow is melting away. Which is good, because tomorrow I see this princess for a short visit.

Yesterday, still lacking a good winter hat, I experienced the sensation of having one's hair frozen to one's head. Perhaps we might call it the cornrows-in-winter look. I startled the poor librarian when I marched into the library and matter of factly asked for my hold items. "My goodness!" she gasped, "How FAR did you walk???" Confused, I handed her my credit card. "Not far," I mumbled. "Um, from campus, actually."

"I can't put your library items on your credit card," she reminded me.
"Oh, um. Sorry." I dug out my library card. And after the librarian finished crediting those hold items to my account, I disappeared once more, a frozen ghost in the howling windstorm.

But today the sun is shining.

I went to boarding school in Iowa. My hair froze every morning on the way to breakfast in the winter.

One time I went running in below freezing weather wearing a knit wool cap on my head, and a thick layer of frost developed on top as the steam from my head hit the freezing air and crystalized.

1. I thought you had a toque? I mean, I know it shrunk and all... but it'd be better than nothing...

2. When I went to emerg with my broken finger I tried to give the nurse my library card instead of my health card.
...I think it actually made her more sympathetic to my plight.

Yeah...the toque just doesn't fit if I have any sort of hair implement holding my hair together. So I basically have to wear the toque forever once I go out with it.

Haha, I love that none of my American readers will understand what a toque is. Makes me feel initiated. :)
