We write the songs

So Heidi and Laura had a little birthday action last night. A bunch of us CTK'ers went to Charles PlayHouse for a little karaoke. Being the karaoke novice, I discovered that crowds generally like classic rock/metal, a genre I don't do too well. But I had fun with my ballad "In My Life." When I attempted "Crocodile Rock," I felt Elton John turn in his grave. Which was really an accomplishment considering he isn't dead yet. But enough of that. Here are the words to capture the evening:

...there are places I remember...

..love me, love me, say that you love me...

A friend took a video of Evan, claiming that "Hands down, Evan has the most potential to be in a viral YouTube video." And followed with comparisons to Shatner.

And the birthday girls themselves, writing the songs the whole world sings:

Do I hear the girlfriend laughing in the background???

I especially like the Bud Light dart board back-drop... the secret to good karaoke is both Bud Light (takes the edge of everyone else's singing) AND darts (being willing to take them). About 20 years ago we ventured into our first karaoke bar (in Scottsdale) and, after much prodding, your mother did some very nice Carly Simon numbers and maybe a James Taylor or two. I like to kid her about how I had to *drag* her off the stage (but only after she finished "Your So Vain"). Everyone loved her!

Haha. No, it's not the girlfriend laughing, as I was on the other side of the table, but everyone had a good time. Some of our church members were introduced to Evan's Napoleon Dynamite dance video after this night and discovered a whole new realm of cool. :)

In My Life is only my favorite song in the universe.

Well, Evan also did Burning Down the House. You should have been there.
